Bottlefield is a free browser game. It collects as little as it can, keeps it for as short a time as it can, and never sells it or uses it for advertising. This page explains what that means in practice.
What stays on your device
Your settings, the name you type, your chosen drinks, loadouts, unlocks and progress are saved in your browser's local storage. Clearing your browser's site data deletes them.
If you sign in with Discord
Signing in is optional. It keeps your level and your choices on the server, so they follow you between the website, itch.io and the Discord Activity. When you sign in, Discord tells the game your Discord user ID and display name (the identify permission). The server then keeps, for your account:
- your Discord user ID and display name,
- your experience points (your level),
- your chosen drink and name, your loadouts, gun attachments, fire modes and picked killstreaks,
- when your account was created and last saved.
Your controls and graphics settings are not sent. The server never sees your Discord password or email address. A signed sign-in token is kept in your browser so you stay signed in; signing out removes it.
This is kept until you delete it. In the game menu, open your account button and choose Delete saved progress: everything the server holds for you is erased at once. What is saved in your browser stays until you clear it.
What the server sees when you play online
- Your display name and drink. They are shown to the other players in your room while you are in it.
- A random player key your browser makes, so the room recognises you if you reconnect. Other players only ever see a short code derived from it.
- Chat messages are passed straight on to the other players in your room. They are not stored.
- Your IP address is seen by the server, as with any website. It is only used, in a one-way scrambled (hashed) form, to limit how often rooms can be created and to keep a player who was kicked out of a room from rejoining it. The address itself is not stored.
A room and everything about it is deleted shortly after its last player leaves. The list of public rooms forgets a room within 15 minutes. Rate-limit counters only last for a minute.
Playing with other people
During a match, players' browsers connect to each other directly, or through Cloudflare's relay servers when a direct connection isn't possible. As with any online game, the players you connect to can see your IP address unless the connection is relayed. Game data sent between players is not recorded.
When you play inside Discord
If you start Bottlefield as a Discord Activity, Discord asks whether you allow it to see your basic profile (identify) and to show what you are playing on your profile (activities.write). If you allow it:
- Your Discord display name is used as your player name.
- Your Discord profile shows that you are playing Bottlefield, the mode and map, and how many players are in your group, so friends can join you.
This also signs you in to your Bottlefield account, as described above. Discord's sign-in token stays in your browser and is not stored on the server. You can remove Bottlefield's access at any time in Discord under User Settings → Authorized Apps.
Services we use
The game and its server run on Cloudflare, which processes requests to deliver them and may keep standard logs under its own privacy policy. When you play on itch.io or inside Discord, their own privacy policies also apply. Bottlefield has no ads, no analytics and no tracking cookies.
Children
Bottlefield does not ask for anyone's age, real name, email address or other contact details. Signing in is optional and only links a Discord account.
